Rambling Thoughts

The big day at Brent Monday can only be termed a tremendous success.  Though at the start of the festivities the thermometer at Brent Bank said 32 degrees, a large crowd of enthusiastic people were on hand and as the temperature rose so did the size of the crowd.  An estimated 10,000 were on hand at the peak.

The performers, Tammy Wynette, Freddy Fender, Gov. Jimmie Davis, Country boy Eddie, Tom York, Sharon Davis, Tanya Goodson and others were there in full force and the crowds loved it.  There were dozens of displays of goods to sell and trade and a number of schools had displays on hand.  There were literally hundreds of visitors to Bibb County who left here Monday afternoon with a good feeling for Bibb County and the hospitality of the local people.

This was the largest understanding ever put on by anyone in the history of Bibb County and it took such a man as Fred Davis to attempt it.  Fred was interested in doing something for Bibb County that would bring in a lot of people so Bibb County could be known for something good, and so that people could see a community that refused to die after the chips were down.  This was certainly accomplished.  Those present will never forget it and the event will be the subject of conversation for years to come.

Fred Davis stated Monday that it was his hope that such a trade day would become a regular event in the county.  I share his wish.
